Varadero lies 87 miles (140 km) east of Havana along the northern coastline of Cuba . The beach is set along the 12.5-mile-long (20-km) Península de Hicacos, which forms the western boundary on the Bahía de Cárdenas. The beach is long, broad and beautiful, extending across most of the entire peninsula.
Located in the province of Matanzas, Varadero is the most famous beach resort in Cuba , and one of the largest resorts in the Caribbean. Also known as ‘Blue Beach’ because of its clear, calm waters, Varadero is fronted by a 20km (12-mile) fine white sandy beach, which is bathed by the warm waters of the Gulf Stream.

Eating raw or undercooked food is a serious health risk and should be avoided at all costs. Dishes containing beans and roots are typically safe to eat in Cuba since they need to be cooked anyway. Keep an eye out for bananas, yucca, pumpkins, sweet potatoes, frijoles negros (black beans) and other potajes.
Enjoy a day trip from Varadero to Havana , the Cuban capital. Admire the historic buildings and old cars still in use on the cobblestone streets.
Official cost is 90 CUC one way. Travel time about 1.5 hours and they’ll take you right to your doorstep. When you return to Varadero , there is a Viazul shuttle bus to the resorts for 3 CUC.
