Cuba nationalized the United States’ Cuban oil refineries without compensation on October 19, 1960, more than two years after the Cuban Revolution had resulted in the deposition of the Batista regime. The United States then imposed an embargo on all exports to Cuba, with the exception of food and medicine, after Cuba nationalized the US-owned refineries without compensation.
