Have a minimum of 750 contributions to his or her credit. The contributions may comprise of paid contributions inclusive of Voluntary Contributions , Age Credits and or Benefit Credits.
You can find your National Insurance number on your payslip, P60, or letters about tax, pensions and benefits. As an employee: you pay National Insurance contributions if you earn more than £183 a week for 2020-21. you pay 12% of your earnings above this limit and up to £962 a week for 2020-21. the rate drops to 2% of your earnings over £962 a week.

You can start work without a National Insurance number if you can prove you can work in the UK . You can also still apply for benefits or a student loan.
